Heart Disease and Family History

If your mother, father, brother or sister has a history of heart disease especially before the age of 55-65 you are certainly at a higher risk of developing this disease.

While you can not change the risk factor of your family history, you can certainly make certain life style changes to assist your situation.

It is therefore important for you to eliminate other risk factors such as:

  • high blood pressure
  • diabetes
  • lack of activity
  • poor diet
  • high cholesterol foods
  • obesity

There are also many medications which can assist with both high blood pressure and cholesterol.  Consult your doctor to see if these medications are necessary.

  • Start today to avoid heart disease:
  • look at family history
  • eat well; plenty of fruit and vegetables
  • exercise regularly (consult your doctor first if you believe you are at risk)
  • have your blood pressure and cholesterol level checked regularly
