Under eating….. the consequences

While we all know the traditional diseases such as bulimia and anorexia are now common place what is rearing its head is people with good intentions who actually under eat in the illusion they are healthy eaters. These people are flocking to powders and manufactured goods that are often lacking in other micro, macro and nano nutrients. The unfortunate thing is nearly all these people using these types of products along with genetic modified crops and goods are risking serious health issues. It is interesting to note that they are all generally experts even though they have no scientific back ground and are normally easily lead individuals succumbing to what I have referred to in previous writings as the “snake oil salesman”. One does wonder why people simply blindly follow those with little or no recognised academic education in nutrition. As stated in a recent blog “Tell man there is 10 million stars in the Universe and he will believe you…. but tell a body builder he eats too much protein and he will mock you “ Even so called natural foods can be harmful in large quantities. Examples like St John’s Wort, and even large doses of certain herbs can be harmful to our livers such as barberry, black cohosh, chaparral, Chinese ginseng, comfrey, creosote bush, germander, gordoloba yerba tea, greasewood, greater celandine, false pennyroyal, Jamaican bush tea, Jin Bu Huan, Kombucha tea, misteltoe, Sho-saiko-to, pennyroyal oil (squawmint oil), sassafras, senna, skullcap and valerian combined and white chameleon. A recent study of some well known pre-packaged food preparations have shown more than half the ingredients in these products actually don’t even exist. (You may wonder why I haven’t mentioned them …unfortunately I can’t risk another law suit  HAHAHA!! with a big multi-national distributing these potions.) Of course as always, I will be bombarded by those who swallow these along with Multi-Vitamins and Minerals telling me how wonderful they have worked for them and how all their friends are healthy and well now they are taking these wonder products. To all of you people ask yourself this: “Is anyone living longer?” is there quality of life better? Sorry to tell you but no one lives longer than normally their genetics allows them to. It simply gets down to eating everyday foods that have no preservatives and additives in them, not eating too much to get fat and eating enough to stay healthy, exercising regularly by doing weight bearing exercises along with some aerobic activity. While I admit eating copious amounts of saturated fats, too much processed goods, too much alcohol and too much take-away is bad so is all the other junk we consume in the name of good nutrition.

When the wonder pill arrives and is proven I will be the first one to promote it. Until such time, eat whole grains, nuts, healthy fats, lean proteins, and oily fish, vegetables that are organically grown with no sprays (try growing your own) and eat some fruit. We are still discovering what nano and micro-nutrients are in all foods that protect us from disease. The wonder food is all of the above foods. So if you are still reading and getting angry then I simply say to you “naysayers” simply do your own research. Take the product and have it analysed.  It may surprise you what it has and doesn’t have in it. Then take some real food and get it analysed that may also surprise you!!!!! I await the abnormal responses as usual. Bon –Appétit.
